This is a follow-up to this post:

Microsoft is the biggest threat to U.S. National Security
This is morally indefensible, just as it would be for ... airplane manufacturers to charge for properly tightened bolts... - Alex Stamos

If you would rather not read that post, shame on you. JK, basically I outlined the risks of using Microsoft products based upon some recent events at the time.

This time around, I want to talk about a proof-of-concept project called "EU OS", which I hope is successful. The TL/DR is that they want to create a linux based IT framework for the public sector. I would say that the project goes beyond just desktop linux for the public sector, because there are a lot of problems they will need to solve. Read more here:

Proof-of-Concept OS for the EU

In terms of the problems I believe they will need to solve are, I believe that endpoint detection and response and data protection and discovery might be the biggest challenges I see:

EDR - Endpoint detection and response solutions are notably lacking or require improvement, especially on desktop linux, and while there are proprietary solutions I wonder how they intend to solve this issue.

Data protection & eDiscovery - For example, are there platforms they intend to integrate with their Debian-based linux OS to answer legal or regulatory requests?

Those are just two of the questions that stuck in my mind when hearing about this, but overall, I'm very hopeful for this project, and I hope they succeed!
